International Conference on Natural Refrigerants | October 19-20, 2009, Brussels, Belgium

NARECO2

Atmosphere 2009 is supported by the EU-funded project NARECO2 – short for: NAtural REfrigerant CO2. The cooperation between seven project partners from the academia and industry unites expertise from different areas of using CO2.

The Vision

NARECO2 has been running since 2007 to bring together and share knowledge and experience regarding CO2 installations. By spreading the message to countries lagging behind in this rapidly growing area the project, financially supported by the EU Leonardo Life Long Learning programme, envisages a more intense use of CO2 in these countries. Although knowledge in different parts of Europe exists, it is still not structured and accessible to engineers, employees and teachers. This NARECO2 set out to change.

Its project partners are: Catholic University Limburg (Belgium), SINTEF (Norway), University of Padova (Italy), Royal Institute of Technology (Sweden), Bundesfachschule Kälte-Klima-Technik (Germany), Danish Technological Institute (Denmark), and Shecco (Belgium).

The Results

Concrete results presented in a talk concluding Atmosphere 2009 on Tuesday, 20 October:

CO2 e-learning module: The project has resulted in a most complete interactive tool to learn about the specifics of CO2 as a refrigerant and build on the basics to successfully install and handle CO2 systems.

CO2 manual: Probably the most extensive collection of contributions from all parts of Europe about the safe and efficient use of CO2 in mobile air conditioning, commercial and industrial refrigeration, hot water heating, transport refrigeration and others. The document – meant to be a guidance for students, teachers, technicians and engineers – will provide practical and structured information on how to install, dimension, and maintain such a system. It will also serve as a most complete guide for industry and policy decision makers wanting to learn more about the natural refrigerant's potential today and in the future.

The Presentation

Atmosphere 2009 will conclude the NARECO2 project. The CO2 book will be handed out to participants on Tuesday, 20 October.
